Bruton Memorial Library is proud to share our Imagination Garden with our community. The garden features a seasonal flower garden, Florida native plants, and a butterfly garden. We also offer a seed library, garden-focused library events, and an endless number of resources.

Our Project

The garden project is designed to highlight Green Infrastructure, techniques that work with nature to create a beautiful landscape that is healthy for people and animals. These techniques can also be used in your home landscape!

Our Plants

Our garden is constantly expanding as we continue to incorporate new plants best suited for north central Florida. The five that were included in the original design include sedum gold, cardboard palm, firecracker, variegated ginger, and scarlet sage.

Our Progress

The garden project began in 2021 as an inclusive, diverse, and supportive space to combine food, nature, lifelong learning, the environment, and community building. We had the space and the vision! Learn more about the project and check out the transformation in photos.

Seed Library

The Bruton Memorial Seed Library is open to all community patrons who want to start or enhance a garden. Patrons can check out up to three seed packets per month. Both flower and edible seeds are available. Packets are non-returnable but seed donations are accepted.

Library Events

In addition to the seed library and self-guided garden tours, we regularly offer garden-themed programming. Visit our event calendar for the latest offerings.

Seed of the Month

Stop by the library to pick up the featured seed for March 2022: cabbage!

Kids had a great time at our recent STEAM zone program where the topic was gardening and plants! They learned about hydroponics, started sprout houses for at-home gardening, and enjoyed a scavenger hunt to identify different types of plants around the library.
